About the Herbal Garden

Ayurveda students identifying medicinal plants with QR labels in the UMCAR Herbal Garden

The Herbal Garden is an integral part of the Dravyaguna Department in Ayurveda, dedicated to the study and conservation of medicinal plants. It serves as a practical learning resource for students to identify, cultivate, and understand the therapeutic properties of various herbs described in classical Ayurvedic texts.

The UMCAR garden includes a diverse collection of medicinal plants. On the basis of their pharmacological properties — Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka, and Karma — it plays a crucial role in bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application, enhancing students' understanding of plant-based drug preparation and usage.

The Herbal Garden in the campus promotes the conservation of Endangered Medicinal Species and supports research activities in Ayurvedic medicines. This practical exposure helps bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical application.

Smart QR-Code Integration

The UMCAR Herbal Garden is equipped with QR codes attached to each plant, enabling quick digital access to detailed information such as:

  • Botanical name and plant family
  • Medicinal properties (Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka, Karma)
  • Therapeutic indications and contraindications
  • Classical Ayurvedic formulations
  • High-resolution plant images

This integration of technology enhances interactive learning and supports self-directed study for Ayurveda students.
